“We are Meant to Work Together”: Generosity Stories

Charitable Impact

Our donors are diverse and have many stories to tell.

We recently heard from some about why they use our platform.

Certain generous people exclusively use their Impact Accounts for their giving. Others manage Charity Profile pages of the registered charities they run, while also contributing to causes as individuals. Some are driven by giving to charities they support regularly and feel passionate about—like food insecurity, animal protection, and the arts.

Donors told us they like:

  • Adding money without immediately needing to know exactly how they will make donations.
  • Donating stocks or other non-cash assets.
  • Finding all their tax receipts for donations in one place to access tax credits.

Here are some quotes:

“Giving is a lot of fun! There are so many great causes to choose from. You just have to get past moving the cash from your bank account to your Charitable Impact account. The rest is like Christmas.”

“I like that I can park cash [in my Impact Account] until I know what I want to do with it, especially at yearend when I want to give to offset my tax bill.”

“Canada and the world are in a food insecurity crisis. I am a regular monthly donor to my local food bank and gave a special matching gift due to the greater needs at this time.”

“An open spirit is good for you and others.”

“I like to help strangers requesting help, whether it’s a drink of water on a hot day or needing directions somewhere. An open spirit is good for you and others. I feel good knowing that the amount I give through Charitable Impact can really do some good for somebody or a family where things are considerably more desperate where I’m at now.”

Sophisticated support available for giving needs

We are in regular touch with our donors. Our support team is here to answer your questions by email, phone, and chat. Some of the common questions we get include:

  • Where can I find my tax receipt?
  • Why is the charity I gave to not listed on the receipt? (Spoiler: Charitable Impact operates as a donor-advised fund and public foundation, meaning we issue tax receipts upon deposit to your Impact Account.)
  • How can I set up an automatic deposit to my Impact Account?

We have blog posts and Help pages available to answer some of these. You can also find more information on our introduction and FAQ page, and can browse popular topics on our Help page.

Our own giving stories

At Charitable Impact, we believe in what we do. Our own staff have shared their giving stories about what drives their generosity and how it is expressed.

Rolla Sarwary, Director of Demand Generation at Charitable Impact, has started a group encouraging members to dedicate 1% of their income to charitable causes. Most Canadians give less than that to registered charities, about 0.64% according to 2020 numbers.

“Giving with others creates a sense of community.”

“I believe most people want to do good in some way, shape, or form,” said Sarwary. “My time is limited due to work and other obligations so giving money is how I contribute to creating positive change. Charitable Impact’s tools have allowed me to create a philanthropy club where I can give together with others. Giving to different causes with others creates a sense of community and also amplifies our impact because we pool our funds to make a larger gift as a group.”

Another of our inspiring employees tells us generosity can be “an act of rebellion”. We welcome the disruption!

“It allows us to find hope in spaces and situations that may feel hopeless,” said Pavan Thind, Philanthropic Advisory Coordinator. “We are constantly inundated with world issues, both online and in real life. It can be isolating and overwhelming to know how or where to lend your support. It’s important to remember that we are meant to work together.”

However you give, whether as part of a planned budget, together with others, or as an act of standing up for what you believe in, we are here to support you.
