City News TV: The Food Security Fund tackling food insecurity in the Black community
August 26, 2025
It’s hard to fathom that 1 in 5 people in Canada live in food-insecure homes and of those, nearly 45% of food-insecure children in Toronto identify as Black, facing food insecurity at 3.5 times the national average. It's clear that this issue doesn’t impact all communities equally. The Food Security Fund, a new community-led initiative based in Toronto, tackles this urgent challenge head-on.
It combines food distribution, education, and infrastructure development to create sustainable, scalable solutions — and it’s powered by Charitable Impact's unique Cause Fund model that pools donations and leverages expert leadership for maximum impact.
On August 1, City News' Rhianne Campbell spoke with Anick Silencieux, who heads the fund about this new charitable effort and the kinds of organizations it hopes to help.
