From the big banks to community foundations, a snapshot of Canadian giving through donor-advised funds

In this report, the Canadian Family Offices profiles major Canadian charitable foundations and their donor-advised funds (DAFs), noting trends in how philanthropic capital is managed and distributed. It highlights how Canada’s fastest-growing tool for philanthropic giving, the donor-advised fund, comes in a bewildering array of shapes and sizes.

Among the notable DAF providers, Charitable Impact (CHIMP), a Vancouver-based entity, is highlighted for facilitating giving across wealth levels, with about $676 million in DAF assets in 2024 held across over 13,600 accounts and roughly 11% of those assets disbursed to charities.
