What are Cause Funds?

When you don't know where to give, Cause Funds make it easy to support the causes you care about with confidence. Your donation is pooled with others and directed by trusted Cause Leaders towards charities working together to make the greatest impact for change.

Plan

Our vision is a life not limited by ALS.

Led by ALS Action Canada, the Super Fund is an ALS community-driven movement to accelerate treatments, increase advocacy and collaboration, and mobilize investment in ALS research.

The Problem

The Problem

Progress isn't happening fast enough

ALS is a devastating neurological disease that affects thousands of Canadians, gradually taking away a person’s ability to move, speak, and breathe. People are diagnosed with little time, limited treatment options, and uneven access to care and clinical trials.

At the same time, efforts to end ALS are fragmented—spread across organizations, geographies, and priorities. Funding, research, and advocacy are not always aligned, slowing progress when urgency is critical.

The result is a slower path to progress, when we could be moving faster, together.

The Opportunity

The Opportunity

Building a united movement against ALS

Promising treatments are emerging, and research is advancing—but progress isn’t happening fast enough for those affected by ALS.

The ALS Super Fund is a movement builder and connector: bringing together charities, researchers, clinicians, advocates, communities, and corporate partners across Canada and the United States to align efforts in policy, research, awareness, and funding.

By raising and directing funds toward high-impact projects, the Super Fund helps accelerate progress while ensuring that decisions reflect the voices and perspectives of those most affected by ALS. This collaborative, inclusive approach connects people, organizations, and resources around a shared mission to accelerate progress against ALS.

A Movement Inspired by Lived Experience

A Movement Inspired by Lived Experience

Remembering Mark Kirton (1958-2025), Co-Founder of the ALS Super Fund

Mark Kirton was a former NHL player, ALS advocate, and Board Director at ALS Action Canada. After being diagnosed with ALS in 2018, he transformed his personal battle into a movement, helping to launch ALS Action Canada, the country's only patient-led ALS organization, and founding the ALS Super Fund.

Through his leadership, Mark brought together patients, researchers, clinicians, advocates, and the hockey community to advance progress toward a cure. He led national campaigns that united all 32 NHL teams and raised significant funding for ALS research and care. Known for his authenticity, determination, and ability to unite people around a shared purpose, Mark helped build a movement that continues to guide the ALS Super Fund today—connecting people, organizations, and resources to advance treatments, strengthen advocacy, and move closer to a future where life is not limited by ALS.
