World’s Largest Sandbox Raises Funds for Children’s Mental Health

Research | August 21, 2014

Healthy play is one of the most important components of a healthy mind and body in childhood, and nothing represents healthy play better than a giant sandbox.

On Saturday, August 16, Chimp joined forces with Passage Give and the Kelty Patrick Dennehy Foundation to raise funds for children’s mental health with The World’s Largest Sandbox.

Located at Second Beach in Stanley Park, the giant sandbox (39 feet long and 8/12 inches tall filled with 24,000 lbs of sand) played host to kids and adults alike, three sandcastle competitions throughout the day and a ton of healthy fun.

The event also included kids’ yoga, speakers, music, food trucks, facepainting, silent auctions and the opportunity to donate to organizations that support mental health.

Chimp facilitated online donations (which were generously matched by Davis LLP on the day of the event), handed out 200 sand buckets, awarded three prizes of $100 Chimp dollars to donate to the charity of the winners’ choice, and drew one grand prize winner who received $500 Chimp dollars.

The event successfully raised $6,630 for the Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre and Variety the Children’s Charity, but if you missed it, you can still donate online.
