What’s love got to do with it?

Charitable Giving on Valentine's Day

Well, when it comes to charitable giving, love has everything to do with it.

“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.” (Dalai Lama)

Love is central to the language of giving. While philanthropy literally translates to, “loving mankind,” the word charity is built around, “a generous or compassionate form of love.” Regardless of these literal and deep connections, a majority of Canadians are seen to give in response to being asked, as opposed to giving intentionally to the causes and organizations that they love.

I invite you to think about what you love most in the world – and indeed, how you can channel that love as a way to create positive change. Perhaps its the environment, and more specifically, clean water across the globe? Or you may be passionate about something closer to home, like the joy of wonder and learning your child exhibits when visiting their favourite museum?

When it comes to your charitable giving in 2019, why not make a commitment to be more intentional about tying it to what you love? You may find that your charitable decisions are more joyful – and even more effective – over time.

When you make that decision, know that your giving account with Charitable Impact and our team is here to help you along the way, no matter what causes you love or what charities you choose to contribute towards. It’s our purpose to help you create the change you want to see in the world. That’s what we love.
