The holiday season is a great time to start thinking about the causes that matter most to you and the impact you would like to have. But, with 85,000 charities across Canada – where do you start?

To make your search a bit easier, we have highlighted the six main causes that you could support. We hope this will narrow down your research, and help you find the right charity for you!

Give to children and young people

Children and Young People

There are a number of charities across Canada that work to support and improve the lives of children and young people. These charities provide a number of services including providing hot meals to teens living with food insecurity, protecting against childhood poverty, providing educational programs and much, much more.

Give to animalsAnimals

If you care about animal rights, and protecting animals, then supporting an animal charity may be the right choice for you. Animal charities fulfill a variety of functions including the conservation and protection of wild animals, caring for and finding new homes for abandoned pets, as well as advocating for animal rights.

Medical research

Medical Research and Health

Medical research and health charities carry out research to find new treatments for illnesses and diseases. They also provide healthcare services and support to those living with illnesses, and their families.

Give to human services and welfare

Human Services and Welfare

Charities within the human services and welfare category work to support those living with food insecurity, facing homelessness or living with poverty. On Charitable Impact, you can find charities who focus on helping Canadians, in addition to those who exist to provide international aid.

Give to arts and culture

Arts and Culture

Museums, art galleries, aquariums and zoos are all examples of arts and culture charities. While a majority of us enjoy experiencing arts and culture, less than 2% of the population actually make donations to this cause.

Give to the environmentEnvironment

Everyday we are faced with new information about the damage we are doing to the environment – plastic in the oceans, deforestation, climate change… Environmental charities work hard to conserve and protect the environment. They also conduct research and advocate for policy changes to take better care of our planet.
