Make Giving A Habit In 2014

Charitable Impact

Earlier this year, we encouraged you to set a giving goal for yourself as a step towards intentional giving in 2014.

As an avid runner, I know goals are a powerful start, but they’re not enough. Whether it’s running a marathon or meeting a giving goal, it’s important to start building habits today that help empower us to put our best foot forward.

What running taught me about creating charitable habits

When I first started running, every step, stride, and run contributed towards building a habit. Several hundreds and thousands of kilometres later, I’ve learned to make my goals a part of my routine to help keep me motivated and on track.

To help me with my goal of giving generously to the causes that are important to me, I’m committed to making charity a habit with a monthly recurring donation into my Chimp Account.

Here are a few ways that adding a recurring donation can guide you towards achieving your 2014 giving goal.

1. Take it one step at a time

Goals can be both inspiring and daunting at the same time. Instead of focusing solely on the “big picture,” consider breaking your goals down into smaller chunks to tackle at a time.

When I ran my first marathon, I separated the 42.2 kilometre race into quarters. By focusing on the steps I needed to take during each section of the race, I ultimately found myself at my goal: the finish line.

In the same way, a monthly recurring donation spreads your giving goal over the course of a year, keeping you motivated for the long run (pun intended).

2. Make it part of your routine

Part of building a habit is making routine decisions as easy as possible. That means establishing a running routine for myself on certain days – no excuses.

Creating a habit of charity is similar. You can start by scheduling a monthly donation so that it becomes part of your routine, and once you’re set up, you can focus your efforts on the best part: finding and giving to charities that are important to you.

3. Seek support to keep you accountable

One of the most encouraging ways to get me to lace up my runners is having supportive training partners. They keep me going when runs gets tough, hold me accountable to my goals, and make every run a whole lot of fun.

At Chimp, we want to support your giving goals and help keep you on track throughout the year. Think of us and a recurring donation as your charitable partners, here to encourage and keep you accountable. And like any partner, we’re here to make giving fun too!

Achieve your giving goal by setting up a recurring donation today

A monthly recurring donation into your Chimp Account is a powerful tool to build a habit of charity, and help you reach your 2014 giving goal.

Determining your recurring donation amount is as simple as dividing your giving goal by twelve, and the best part is having money to give away to the causes that inspire you. And that feels good!

Let’s create a habit of generosity and help change the world together!
